Pearl of Vava’u is a unique aquaculure and jewelry handicraft business based in the pristine waters of Vava’u, Tonga. We specialize in cultivating exquisite Mabe pearl’s over a paient 4 to 5 year period, which we then craft into stunning jewelry and other products. As trailblazers in our industry, we prioritize sustainbility by employing reusable and biodegradable cages for farming and locally sourced materials like “tapa” cloth (mulberry tree bark cloth) for packaging.

Our vision is to be a catalyst for positive change in our community driven by a threefold commitment: firstly we aim to create abundant job opportunities for women and youth, nurturing their growth and potential, second, we strive to eliminate littering, fostering a cleaner, healthier environment for all and finally, we are dedicated to the restoration of coral reefs in our coastal area addressing the environment issues caused by pearl farming practices ensuring the vitality of our oceans.

Fai’ana Fukofuka runs her family’s business on the island of ‘Ofu. It is part of the Vava’u group of islands, home to the first pearl farms. The 30 year-old managed a boutique resort and a whale-watching operation, as well as their pearl farm, established in 2018. With borders closed, all their income now has to come from pearls.

the youngest pearl farmer from Vava'u Tonga, Fai'ana Fukofuka. Fai’ana is a successful #mabѐ #pearl farmer and artisan who gained an interest in pearl farming through her love for sea jewellery.
Fai’ana started her own pearl farm in November 2018 with the help of the Ministry of Fisheries - Tonga and #USC #TAR researchers. She attended her first handicraft workshop at the Vava’u Pearl Centre in February 2019, and in 2020, seeded 30 oysters which she will harvest this June.
